Manchin Seals Nomination for Re-Election
Schweitzer Congratulates Him for His Victory
Democratic Governors Association (DGA) Chair Gov. Joe Manchin this evening easily won the West Virginia Democratic nomination for Governor. Tonight’s victory puts him on target to win re-election and continue to move West Virginia forward.
DGA Vice Chair Gov. Brian Schweitzer (Mont.) congratulated Gov. Manchin on his resounding victory. “West Virginians know that Joe Manchin is doing an outstanding job as Governor, and tonight’s victory confirms that,” Gov. Schweitzer said. “Governors across the country look to Governor Manchin as a leader on a wide range of issues. From job growth to tax relief for working families, Governor Manchin is improving the quality of life for West Virginians.”
Under Gov. Manchin’s leadership, West Virginia was ranked 8th in the nation in business expansion and recruitment. He helped to create approximately 23,000 new jobs and usher in record-low unemployment levels. He championed the fight to increase the minimum wage, provide a low-income tax credit, and cut the food tax to give working families financial relief.
“Governor Manchin’s bold vision for the future and his victory tonight bring him another step closer to a second term of working hard for hard-working West Virginians,” Gov. Schweitzer said. “Joe Manchin is showing the kind of Democratic leadership that is resonating with citizens in every corner of the country. With innovation and common-sense, Governor Manchin is getting results to make West Virginia stronger than ever before.”
